Polar plunge helps special olympics

Thousands will jump into frigid waters in the coming weeks to raise money for Special Olympics.

Polar plungers dove in in Manitowoc Saturday afternoon.

The event took place at the Seven Lakes Golf Course and it started with a party, then a 5K and ended with a plunge in the afternoon.

This is the third year for the event in Manitowoc and organizers say they think the weather is helping draw a larger crowd than expected.

They say the could easily pass the $65,000 raised at last year's event.

"I think it's great you know the community coming together like this, you know you have a small community like Manitowoc county and they're all coming together to help out such a great cause like Special Olympics," said regional director of development for the Special Olympics, Matt Harper.

Oshkosh and Green Bay are also holding plunges in the coming weeks.

At Menominee Park in Oshkosh they'll dive in next weekend and in Green Bay at the Watering Hole the frigid dip takes place March fourth.
