The Outagamie County Sheriff's Department has identified the 77-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle Monday as John Jansen.
On January 2, at approximately 6:38 a.m. the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a vehicle vs pedestrian report on CTH N about half a mile north of CTH JJ.
Authorities say a Chevy Trailblazer, driven by a 23-year-old man from Kaukauana, was traveling northbound on CTH N when he struck Jansen.
Jansen was transported with life threatening injuries to the Appleton Medical Center.
The Outagamie County Sheriff's Department says he later died from his injuries.
The incident occurred in the early morning during "hours of darkness" in an area does not have any street lights, according to the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities believe Jansen was retrieving his newspaper at the time of the accident.
The Outagamie County Sheriff's Department states that the 23-year-old driver was cooperative with officers and remained on scene after the accident.
This investigation is ongoing, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
