Brown County will soon be greener. Representatives from 17 communities and Brown County picked up their new trees Monday through First Downs for Trees. The program donates trees to municipalities based on the number of first downs scored by the Packers in the previous season. This year, 444 donated trees will be planted throughout Brown County.
"It's really important to plant new trees because, right now you know, you've got the emerald ash borer and stuff that we've been taking trees down this wintertime. So, we have to replenish them somehow, and this is one great way to replenish them," said Jerry Watzka with the Village of Allouez Parks Department.
This is the eighth year of the program which aims to reduce the Packers' carbon footprint associated with traveling to away games.
So far, more than 4,700 donated trees have been planted through First Downs for Trees.
