Doctors in Ireland will be telling this story over pints of Guinness for years to come.

A man was recently rushed to an emergency room in Dublin, suffering from a rare case of "penile strangulation," according to a report in the Irish Medical Journal.

The man fell victim to the condition because a titanium ring had become stuck around his genitals. According to the report, the man put the ring on himself to "increase sexual performance."

When he was taken to the hospital, the ring had been on for at least seven hours, causing pain and swelling in his genitals. Doctors at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital tried to remove the ring manually, using ice to reduce the swelling and bolt cutters to grip it, but failed.

Eventually, firefighters were called in to help remove the ring. They sedated the victim and used a hand-operated electric saw to cut through the ring, using metal forceps placed under the ring to keep the saw from penetrating the man's skin.

A month after the incident, the man appears to be fine, with no lingering effects.
