BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) -- A woman is accused of dragging a Brown County Sheriff's deputy with a vehicle during a traffic stop.
According to a criminal complaint, Stephanie Verbeten faces several charges related to a traffic stop on Jan. 13 along I-41, south of Scheuring Road, in the Town of Lawrence.
A deputy states in the complaint that he pulled over Verbeten after noticing her driving erratically. The deputy said Verbeten was argumentative and uncooperative during the stop. The deputy also said he saw a pewter flask in a can cozy on the front passenger seat.
As the deputy had reached in to turn off the vehicle, the complaint says Verbeten leaned on the deputy's arm and drove away. The deputy said Verbeten drove about 15 feet before he was able to get free of the vehicle and tumbled into the second lane. The deputy then got back into his squad car and drove after Verbeten. She eventually pulled over to the shoulder again at the bottom of an exit ramp.
The complaint said Verbeten was combative as officers pulled her out of the vehicle, using a baton and a Taser to subdue her. While handcuffed, the complaint says Verbeten began to seize. Two doses of Narcan were used at the scene. Verbeten regained consciousness, the complaint said, and struggled against restraints while being placed on a stretcher to the ambulance.
Verbeten faces charges of first degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer, obstructing an officer, and a first offense OWI causing injury. Online records show her next appearance in court is scheduled for Feb. 4.
