An Oconomowoc woman will serve life in prison for fatally shooting her husband.

54-year-old Amy Van Wagner also was given a 10-year sentence Wednesday for hiding a corpse.

A jury in Waukesha County found Van Wagner guilty of shooting her husband, Stanley Van Wagner, and then trying to make it appear as though he had gone missing.

His body was found under a tarp in the couple's basement in May 2015. Prosecutors argued Amy Van Wagner killed her husband in a dispute over finances and then tried to make it appear he was just missing.

In court, Van Wagner asked for extended supervision for the sake of her children. But the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the judge denied her request.

The defense plans to appeal her conviction.
