DE PERE, Wis — DE PERE, Wis - It's the wettest September ever on record for the Green Bay area and we're on pace to set a rain record for the entire year. But while many are sick of the soggy weather we’ve endured, there's at least one industry welcoming all of this precipitation.

In De Pere within the heavily wooded Nicolet escarpment, it's wet and very buggy. But the vast majority of the Maple trees riddling the landscape are actually benefitting from all of the rain we've gotten.

Theresa Baroun, a fourth generation maple syrup producer with Maple Sweet Dairy Farm says this weather is actually great for her business. She says last year when the Green Bay Area had record setting rain totals her trees thrived and produced more sap, than they had in years.

“The rain actually is good for the maple industry due to the moisture in the ground. When there is a drought our sap production is lower due to not having as much moisture," says Baroun.

Theresa says her family’s business at Maple Sweet Dairy is located on high ground which gives her trees an advantage to thrive in this wet weather.
