A news release from the West De Pere School District says John Zegers will retire effective July 5, 2019. The Board of Education accepted Zegers' letter of retirement at their monthly meeting on Thursday.
The news release says John Zegers has had a career in education for 44 years, beginning as a physical education teacher at Notre Dame in De Pere in 1975.
The news release says he has worked various teaching and administrative positions in Green Bay, De Pere, and Waupun.
"Serving as the Superintendent in teh School District of West De Pere has been the most rewarding personal journey in my educational career," Zeger is quoted in the news release.
In the news release, Zegers is also noted for some of his accomplishments, including securing funding for schools, helping renovate facilities, and increase AP courses for students.
