WAUPACA CO. (NBC 26) -- A snowmobiler fell into open waters on the Wolf River in Waupaca County just before midnight on Friday.

The snowmobiler was found clinging to the water's edge south of County Hwy X in the Town of Mukwa.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office, the snowmobiler had been traveling alone headed southbound on the river when he entered the open water.

The snowmobiler was transported to a hospital in New London before being transferred by helicopter to Theda Care Medical Center of Neenah. His condition was not disclosed at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office recommends not traveling on the Wolf River due to unstable ice conditions and areas of open water.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was forwarded the incident for additional investigation.
