The Racine County Sheriff says a 40-year-old man was shot and killed after a suspect broke into his home and started firing.

Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said this happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the Town of Norway. Schmaling said the suspect fired multiple rounds into the home, was able to get inside the home, and shot a 40-year-old man multiple times. The sheriff said he believes the victim is from Racine County.

Despite lifesaving measures, the victim was taken to Ascension Hospital in Franklin where the person later died.

Other people inside the home left the scene. Sheriff Schmaling says the suspect also fled the scene.

The Racine County Sheriff says they believe the suspect is 40-year-old Troy Hoffmann. Authorities said he left the area east on Loomis Road in a 2009 white Toyota Sienna with the license plate AFV-9734.
