OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- An Oshkosh school resource officer was honored Friday afternoon with a check presentation.
Oshkosh Police said $10,000 was recently donated to two law enforcement related charities thanks to the fundraising efforts of one Oshkosh West High School student. The funds were raised through a T-shirt campaign organized by junior John Weigand to honor Oshkosh West School Resource Officer Mike Wissink.
Oshkosh Police said proceeds from the fundraiser went to two charities chosen by Officer Wissink: Team Blue Line and Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officers Association Memorial Campground.
Court documents say a student, 17-year-old Grant Fuhrman, stabbed Officer Wissink with a barbecue fork at the high school on December 3, 2019. Officer Wissink fired his gun, shooting Fuhrman and himself. Both were taken to the hospital and later released. Furhman is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide.
