OCONTO COUNTY — One man was killed and two others were injured while clearing away fallen trees.

The Oconto County Sheriff's Office provided an update on the death and injuries in a news release on Tuesday.

The Sheriff's Office says a 67-year-old man, identified as John Nichols, died from his injuries after trying to remove a fallen tree in the Town of Townsend on Friday. According to the Sheriff's Office, Nichols was trying to remove a fallen tree with a chain attached to a four-wheeler. The chain broke, causing the tree to break free. The tree struck Nichols in the head, causing serious head trauma. He was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries on Saturday.

A second man was hurt in the same incident. The Sheriff's Office says a 39-year-old man was hospitalized after his eye and face were injured.

On Saturday, in a different incident, the Sheriff's Office says a 70-year-old man seriously hurt his leg while cutting a tree in the Town of Riverview. He was also taken to a hospital.
