KEWAUNEE COUNTY (NBC 26) -- Authorities are releasing more information on a police shooting involving a kidnapping suspect last week.

Luis Cardona was accused of kidnapping and shooting his ex-girlfriend, Babette Caraballo, on November 19th. The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office and Green Bay Police Department responded to West Kewaunee to rescue Caraballo and arrest Cardona. Authorities say Cardona fired shots and then one law enforcement officer fired his weapon in Cardona's direction. Cardona died at the scene.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the officer involved in the shooting is Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron J. Schley, with 8 years of service. Schley is on administrative leave, per department policy.

The DOJ says Babette Caraballo is still at a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

DCI is still investigating and will turn over the investigation reports to the Kewaunee County District Attorney.
