DE PERE (NBC 26) -- The St. Norbert College Board of Trustees has a new Chair.

A press release sent out Friday said Rev. Andrew Ciferni's term as new Chair begins immediately.

According to the press release, Rev. Ciferni is an alumni of the college, getting his B.A. in Philosophy from St. Norbert in 1964. He is in his second term as a Trustee. Ciferni served as director of the Center for Norbertine Studies at St. Norbert from 2013-2018. He was recognized for his service to the college and the Norbertine Order with an honorary degree in 2002.

The press release says Rev. Ciferni is a member of the Daylesford Abbey community of Norbertines based in Paoli, Pa. He received his Ph.D. in theology from the University of Notre Dame. He taught at Catholic University of America and at Washington Theological Union, where he also served as academic dean.

There are 36 members on the college's Board of Trustees. This announcement comes after the resignation of four trustees earlier this week. A college spokesperson said those moves were not unexpected.

St. Norbert College has faced some controversy recently over the announced departure of college president Brian Bruess, which sparked student protest. The board then voted in late November to approve a contract extension with President Bruess, keeping him on as college president.
