VILLAGE OF HOWARD, Wis. — A man is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say he left two dogs out in the cold without food.
Court document show Trinton Menomin has been charged with not providing a proper outside dog shelter, failing to provide food for an animal, as well as charges related to marijuana and resisting arrest.
Officers responded last Sunday to a home in the Village of Howard for a complaint about an animal. One responding officer says in the criminal complaint that the home was deemed a “nuisance property” by the Village of Howard, having received about 55 calls regarding nuisance violations such as barking dogs.
The criminal complaint says one officer arrived to find two dogs outside in the fenced backyard. The complaint states the temperature at the time was 7 degrees with 7 mph winds and wind chill temperature at -1 degrees.
Testimony in the criminal complaint also notes the dog bowls found in the home’s kitchen were dry, as if the dogs hadn’t had food or water in a while. An officer in the criminal complaint notes one of the dog's rib cage could be seen through the skin.
An officer states in the criminal complaint that there were feces on the floor of the home and the residence was clearly unkempt. The criminal complaint says the officers had entered the home to ensure no one inside was injured, dead or dying.
Court documents say officers also found a dead lizard inside a tank in the living room, as well as marijuana in the home and in Menomin’s vehicle.
As officers were investigating the home, the criminal complaint says a man later identified as Menomin arrived at the house and demanded to know why officers were there. The criminal complaint says Menomin went back to his minivan, pulled out a cell phone and made a comment about recording the officers.
Online court records show Menomin is facing seven different charges.
