GREEN BAY, Wis (NBC26) -- The St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter has a 84 person capacity. Since November when the shelter opened for overnight stay, leaders say they've been over capacity. On January 29 the shelter took in 111 people which then had to stay with some of the shelters partners.

The Director of Community Engagement, Alexa Priddy, says unfortunately over-capacity issues have become their new norm.

There are many ways people can give back. One is by volunteering. The volunteers at the shelter are so incredible they log 10,000 volunteer hours.

The shelter is always in need of necessities, but during the winter season there is a greater need for heavy-duty winter gloves and larger sized underwear as well as heat warmers. The shelter also has a wish list on their website.

St. John's the Evangelist Homeless Shelter has been selected as a "Give BIG Green Bay" recipient. The campaign is a 24 hour fund raising event that features local charities and non-profits. For more on the campaign, Click HERE.
