MANAWA (NBC 26) - Even though schools are not meeting in-person right now, a local woman is making sure her school district stays safe during this pandemic.

“Sometimes I add ribbon, because elastic is hard to find these days,” said Julaine Botting of Manawa as she showed off her home-sewn masks.

Botting, a life-long sewer has made nearly 200 masks to give to others; many of them going straight to the Manawa School District.

“I started out for, first the bus drivers and the support staff. They were handing out lunches and collecting homework and passing homework out and then it went to more of the teachers as they were shifting stuff around in schools.”

Botting, a former Manawa School District employee, also makes masks for others in the community, but says it’s important to remember bus drivers and teachers who are helping families during this time too.
