FOND DU LAC — The Fond du Lac Humane Society confirms they are treating two 8-week-old puppies who were thrown in a retention pond.
According to Fond du Lac Police, a man and a woman in their 20s were taken to jail on animal abuse charges. The couple was from Georgia, police say. Police responded Monday around 5pm to the pond, located on W. Rolling Meadows Drive and S. Hickory Street.
According to a statement from the police department, witnesses told investigators that the man was seen spinning one of the dogs 360 degrees before throwing it 10 to 20 feet out into the water. Police say the suspect was also seen lifting one of the dogs up over his head and throwing him into the pond.
The puppies are now under the care of a veterinarian at a shelter, the Fond du Lac Humane Society said.
The Humane Society said the puppies have been placed on a broad spectrum antibiotic to combat aspiration pneumonia, the effects of water in the lungs, as well as blue/green algae.
