APPLETON — Firefighters in Appleton were able to bring a house fire under control within 20 minutes early Monday morning. The home on 934 East North Street suffered smoke damage.

Appleton's Fire Department said in a news release that the fire happened in an area of the city that had been without power since the storm on Saturday. The Fire Department said power was restored to the area just before the fire was reported. The cause is still under investigation.

The Fire Department also said crews responded to two separate stove top fires overnight, which were a direct result of items being stored on the stove top. The power had been out in these areas of town as well. The burners had either been left on or a setting had accidentally been bumped. The Fire Department said the fires started after power had been restored, when the burners heated and ignited what was on the stove top.

The Fire Department is reminding the public to not leave or store materials in the oven or on the stove top.
