A Lincoln County Deputy killed a person during, what the sheriff's office is calling, a "critical incident" Monday night.
WJFW Newswatch 12reports that the incident happened along Highway FF near Hilly Road in the Town of Corning. That's southwest of Merrill near the Marathon County line.
Sheriff Jeff Jaeger has asked the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to look into the incident, which is standard protocol during an officer-involved death.
A press release did not say how the person died, what led to the incident, or if anyone else was involved.
This is the second time in nearly seven months Lincoln County deputies were involved in a deadly incident. July 26, 2016 officers from the LCSO, Antigo Police Department, and Langlade County Sheriff's Office shot and killed Scot Minard east of Merrill. Minard shot at police in Antigo early that morning, then led police on a high-speed chase into Lincoln County. All officers were cleared of any charges following a DCI investigation into that shooting.
