Green Bay Area Public School District employee charged with possession of child porn

GREEN BAY, Wis. - A Green Bay Area Public School District employee has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Matthew Vanboesschoten, 58, of Brussels, was charged with one count of child porn possession in June in Door County.

He worked for the district as an assistant network manager PC technician and was immediately placed on unpaid administrative leave, the district said.

Law enforcement started an investigation after seeing a photo considered child pornography. They then tracked down the IP address, which led investigators to Vanboesschoten's house, the criminal complaint explained.

The sheriff's office searched his home, looking at tech devices, according to court documents. Vanboesschoten admitted to investigators that he had viewed about 20-50 images that could be considered child pornography on a file sharing website, the criminal complaint said.

He also said he saved some pictures to his computer, police said.

The school district released a statement regarding the charges, saying:

Mr. Vanboesschoten was placed on an unpaid administrative leave as soon as the District learned of the charges in June. He did work as an assistant network manager PC technician. The main job duties of an assistant network manager PC technician is to service hardware. As such, his role involved little to no student contact. In addition to working with law enforcement on this matter, the District followed its internal policies and procedures and reviewed the matter from a personnel perspective. The District’s own review did not find any information from a personnel perspective that would be have been turned over to law enforcement or matters similar to what was discovered on Mr. Vanboesschoten’s personal computers.  Because this is a personnel issue, the District is unable to communicate details about the situation.

Vanboesschoten will be back in court on November 7.
