Governor walker unveiled his proposal on Monday morning. One of the target areas he says will focus on school districts statewide.
Governor Walker says he plans to invest nearly $650,000,000 into K-12 districts statewide.
"We're going to be putting in this budget, and I'll present to the legislature on Wednesday. More money will be put into public education than ever before," said Walker
In the past, Governor Walker has proposed cuts for K-12 funding. While some democrats are optimistic, they're not sold just yet.
"I'm hopeful this is a step forward, but I need more details to see just how the governor's plan will impact schools in the 30th district and Northeast Wisconsin," said Sen. Dave Hensen
According to Walker, his proposal would increase funding of $200 per student.
"Our priority in this budget, our priority in this session is going to be about getting people the skills, the education, and qualification they need to fill those jobs opened today and those jobs open tomorrow."
He feels better training in schools will get the job done, targeting even the youngest students..
Governor Walker also proposed funding directly to rural schools which includes putting more money toward the high cost of transporting students.
