Eight people have been arrested in an effort to curb the sale and use of illegal narcotics in Waupaca County, according to a press release from Sheriff Brad Hardel.
The following arrests have been made: A 25-year-old Waupaca man for possession with intent to deliver heroin; a 28-year-old Waupaca man for delivery of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin and distribution of heroin near certain public places; a 26-year-old Waupaca man for delivery of heroin and distribution of heroin near certain public places; a 25-year-old Waupaca woman for three counts of delivery of heroin, possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and distribution of heroin near certain public places; a 34-year-old Waupaca man with intent to deliver methamphetamine, felon in possession of firearm and drug trafficking; a 32-year-old Racine man for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and possession of a firearm; a 30-year-old Waupaca man for possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule 2 and 4 drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia; and a 33-year-old Waupaca man for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
During an investigation that began in January, Waupaca County drug investigators initiated an investigation involving four people in regards to the sale and use of heroin. Using undercover officers and confidential informants, law enforcement conduced five controlled drug purchase operations where heroin was purchased from the four people in the Waupaca and King area.
A K9 officer found illegal narcotics in a vehicle stopped in the town of Dayton on Friday afternoon. All three people in the vehicle admitted they had traveled to Milwaukee to purchase $800 worth of heroin.
On Tuesday, the Waupaca County SWAT team and several other agents executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Center Street in Waupaca to locate and arrest an individual who was absconding from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Drugs and weapons were found inside the home. Officers also searched a home across the street and found additional drugs. A 3-year-old was inside the residence at that time and the Waupaca County Health and Human Services was contacted to assess the situation.
Hardel said more arrests are expected.
