MADISON (NBC 26) -- After a weekend upgrade prevented the daily reporting of COVID numbers in Wisconsin, the website for the state Department of Health Services (DHS) returned Monday with new coronavirus numbers.

"Due to this temporary pause no new cases were reported out on 10/17/2020," DHS said Monday. "We can expect to see an influx in cases reported in the following days."

The latest numbers from DHS are high, with 3,777 newly confirmed cases bringing the state's total to 173,891. However, DHS advised the public on Monday to view the 7-day average for cases counts, rather than focusing on the number of new case on a given day. The seven-day average reported on Monday was 3,099 new cases per day.

DHS's website also reported 12 new deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the state's death toll to 1,600.
