Wisconsin reports 1,672 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday

MADISON (NBC 26) -- As Gov. Tony Evers issues a new face mask mandate, COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 1,672 new cases of coronavirus in the state. The state now has a total of 104,170 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 84.6% of those cases listed as recovered. There are currently 14,770 active cases in Wisconsin.

The percentage of coronavirus tests returning a positive result was lower on Tuesday, down to 13.3%. It had previously reached 20% on Sunday. Seven more COVID-19 deaths were reported Tuesday, raising the death toll to 1,251.

Wisconsin’s COVID-19 cases have been soaring and the state now ranks third in the country for new cases per capita, according to the Associated Press. A month ago, Wisconsin ranked 26th. Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases has gone up by 912, an increase of nearly 104%. There were 357 new cases per 100,000 people in Wisconsin over the past two weeks.
