A Fincantieri Marinette Marine employee told shipyard leadership Thursday they tested positive for COVID-19, the company said in a news release.
The news release said this is the only confirmed case of coronavirus in any of the U.S. Fincantieri shipyards.
“I appreciate that this employee put the health and welfare of our teammates first by alerting leaders know as soon as they tested positive, said Jan Allman, FMM CEO. “This allowed us to immediately execute our response plan.” The employee who tested positive has not been in the Marinette shipyard since April 17, and is recovering in quarantine."
The company will not identify the employee for privacy reasons.
Fincantieri Marinette Marine said a dozen employees were identified by Michigan and Wisconsin health officials as having potential exposure to the confirmed employee. Those employees have been notified and are under quarantine. They will be monitored by their local health departments. These employees will be allowed to enter the workplace no earlier than May 1, provided they are cleared by their medical providers.
“We are keeping our teammate in our thoughts and prayers, and ask that the entire community continue to follow guidance from the CDC and local health officials,” said Allman.
