An Appleton man accused of threatening to re-create a deadly shooting was sentenced Friday in Outagamie County Circuit Court.

A judge sentenced 62 year old Song Leng Vang to 1 year and 6 months in prison.  Vang pleaded guilty to violating a court order by having a gun.

Authorities said the threat, was to repeat the Wausau-area shootings that left four people dead.  There's no charge for the alleged threats themselves.

"I believe it's a fair sentencing," said Defense Attorney Shawn Thao.

According to court documents, Vang's ex-wife feared in June 2017 that he would kill her.

Court paperwork indicated he said, "It is going to be just like Wausau or worse".

Nengmy Vang went on a shooting spree in the Wausau area killing two of his wife's co-workers, her divorce attorney and a police detective.

In Friday's case, the judge rejected a recommendation for probation from corrections officials.

"You continue to deny those threats and until you reconcile things and come to grips with those, you're still a danger to the public," said Judge Vincent Biskupic to Vang in court.

Vang apologized through a Hmong interpreter.

"Judge, I do apologize for what I have done wrong and that's why we’re here today," Song Leng Vang said.

Court document indicated authorities had a search warrant for the suspect's home and found a rifle.

According to the complaint, he wasn't allowed to have a gun after his wife filed a restraining order in 2015.

"People who are in domestic relationships, if they have any concern about their safety and want to seek the help of services life Harbor House, the Christine Ann Center, I encourage them to do so," said Outagamie County District Attorney, Melinda Tempelis.
