The suspect in this morning's shooting in Alexandria, Virginia apparently volunteered on Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign.

Sen. Sanders said he is "sickened by this despicable act" in a statement Wednesday.

The suspect was identified as an Illinois man named James T. Hodgkinson. He has died, according to President Trump.

In a statement after learning of Hodgkinson's alleged involvement with his campaign, Sen. Sanders said, “Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.”

A top House Republican, Steve Scalise of Louisiana, was shot and wounded at a congressional baseball practice Wednesday. Several other people were also wounded, and at least two were in critical condition.
