WAUPUN, Wis. — The Waupun Police Department says they expect to refer charges over to the District Attorney's office sometime this week after a little girl was found sitting by herself in the 200-block of N. Madison Street in Waupun.

The Waupun Police Chief Scott Louden says the little girl was found Monday around 7:20 a.m. Officers searched the area, but did not find anyone who knew the child. She was wearing a Packers sweatshirt, pants and shoes. Arriving officers said she was still warm to the touch when she was found.

The girl was taken via Lifestar ambulance to a local hospital where she was checked over. She did not have any injuries. Chief Louden says Social Services was also contacted.

The Waupun Police Department then posted on their Facebook page about trying to locate the legal guardian of a little girl on Monday. After just 37 minutes of the post, her mother was located and reunited with her daughter.

The investigation is ongoing, but according to officials who have conducted interviews, they say the child was supposed to be in the care of the mother's boyfriend.
