This Family Elaborately Recreated ‘The Simpsons’ Intro While Bored At Home

What do you do with your kids when you’ve watched all the movies, done all the puzzles, read all the books, or are just so bored of doing all those things in lockdown that you have no ideas left? It’s a question being asked by many parents right now.

One Ontario, Canada family came up with something to help keep boredom at bay, and their inventive efforts have gone viral.

Award-winning author Joel Sutherland shared a video of his family recreating “The Simpsons” intro, complete with costumes, to social media on April 8.

“Social Isolation, Day 23. Kids: We’re booooored! What can we do? Wife *cleaning basement*: What are we ever going to do with these Simpsons Halloween costumes we only wore once?” Sutherland wrote alongside the video. Within a few hours, the entertaining clip had more than 100,000 views.

Sutherland later wrote on Twitter that he and his family were “overwhelmed” by the response, and revealed that it wasn’t something they spent a huge amount of time planning. In fact, most of the shots were done in just one take!

Twitter users were quick to praise the Sutherlands. User @eriktmclaughlin was one:

Other users, like @theresa_basile, naturally used GIFs from the show to express their appreciation.

The icing on the cake was a retweet from Al Jean, “The Simpsons” showrunner who is also in charge of the show’s official Twitter, at @The Simpsons. “Quarantine creativity level [100%],” Jean wrote.

Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite cartoon family (or their Twitter account, at least) has a reminder for everybody during this difficult — and yes, often boring — time.

“Stay home, watch TV, save the world. You got this,” was the caption to a picture of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie sitting on their couch in front of the box.

We love seeing this family get so creative and have a good time doing it! Hopefully, it’ll inspire others, too.
