Brittney Merlot loves waking people up with a smile everyday from 5-7am! She joined the NBC 26 Today morning show in March of 2021.
She has spent more than 8 years on the green screen forecasting all types of weather, ranging from snow storms to tornadoes.
In fact, tornadoes is what got her started on this path, she grew up in Illinois scared of them. When she was just 5 years old her family took a direct hit from a massive F5 wedge tornado that tore through a Chicago suburb. She began taking Meteorology classes in college and that fear quickly turned into a passion. Before you know it, she was out all across the country chasing twisters with the College of DuPage, learning tornadogenesis. She then earned her Bachelor's Degree from Northern Illinois University in Broadcast Journalism and Meteorology and she obtained her Master's Degree in Applied Meteorology at Mississippi State University.
Brittney comes to us from a 5-year stint in Duluth, Minnesota, which she calls "Minne-SNOW-ta"! Starting off as a weekend Meteorologist at KQDS FOX 21, she was quickly promoted to morning Meteorologist and co-anchor. When the pandemic hit, she briefly went back home to be with family, but returned to Duluth at WDIO ABC 10 on weekends. While up north, she mastered the skill of lake effect forecasting and is no stranger to the ever-changing weather we experience here. She was voted Best TV Personality in Duluth for three years and loves attending community events and getting to know everyone. So if you see her around town, do not hesitate to say hello! Prior to the Northland, she began her career at WIFR CBS 23 in Rockford, IL and was the Chief Meteorologist at her college station in DeKalb, IL where she won Best Weathercaster of the Year, for 3 years and was nominated for an Emmy.
When Brittney is not forecasting the weather, she is outside enjoying it by cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and more. In the summer months she loves to kayak, boat, sail, whitewater raft, fish, hike, camp, shoot and ATV. She is also a huge country music fan and is extremely happy to call Green Bay her home now, where the outdoor adventures will keep her more than busy. She is a sports fan as well, football is her favorite, but she also enjoys hockey and baseball. We can't forget, she loves stand-up comedy and loves a good laugh! One of her hobbies is taking pictures of nature and weather events, so please send her any of your pictures or videos, then watch for them on air!
Brittney urges you to follow her social media pages, as she hosts many live videos and shares her life with everyone. Reach out, chat about the weather, let her know how much snow you have and what kind of weather is happening at your house as a local storm spotter!
