We all know by now that an unusually warm winter has hampered our winter weather activities across the state. One of the hardest hit recreational activities has been the ice fishing. Ice conditions have been unsafe through much of the winter, especially in the bay of Green Bay, Fox River, and Lake Winnebago. And this week is certainly no different.

You won't be planting palm trees in Wisconsin anytime soon, but warmer temperatures over the last several years has allowed the USDA to make some minor adjustments to their "Plant Hardiness Zones" and corresponding map. These are the first changes made since 1990.

The recent warm weather has to make you wonder...will this winter season be so cold after-all? A couple months ago, most major climate predictors pegged this season to be another cold and snowy one. So far... that definitely hasn't been the case.

Given the latest computer model runs ...I am leaning towards less snow here in Green Bay and more of a sloppy mix. The best chance for heavy snow accumulation will be along a line from Shawano to Marinette. Now this forecasted heavy snow swath can easily change as it has over the last couple of days,

An intense area of low pressure continues to develop and will track across the area over the next 36 hours. If we had the same scenario, same track, same strength in the middle of January... we would be looking at a whopper snowstorm! But it's November and we have an even trickier forecast on our hands with a mixed bag of precipitation expected. The southeastern portion of the NBC 26 viewing area will see all rain, the northwestern corner of the viewing area will likely see a lot of snow. What lies in between is still a bit in question.

While we're basking in the sunshine of a beautiful ridge high pressure, it has to even out somewhere, and that somewhere is the western U.S. under an equally strong trough of low pressure.
