Crean Introduced as Indiana Basketball Coach
Marquette Coach Leaves After Nine Years with Golden Eagles
Associated Press
Indiana University hired Marquette's Tom Crean as its basketball coach.
The hiring comes near the end of a tumultuous six-week period in which former Hoosiers coach Kelvin Sampson resigned amid an NCAA
scandal, interim coach Dan Dakich replaced him and then lost four of seven games.
Crean has gone 190-96 in nine seasons at Marquette. He led the Golden Eagles to the NCAA Final Four in 2003. New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas led Indiana to the national title in 1981. He's in Milwaukee tonight to play the Bucks and says hiring Crean is a very good move for the Hoosiers.
He says Crean has proven himself to be a successful college coach and a very good recruiter, and that's the kind of coach Indiana needs to set a foundation for the future.
