Woman jumps from balcony to escape fire

BEAVER DAM, Wis. - A woman jumped Wednesday morning from a second-floor balcony after the house she was in caught fire.

Beaver Dam firefighters were called at 4:18 a.m. to 115 Chatham Street on a report of a fire with someone trapped on the second floor. When they arrived, they found the first floor fully involved in fire.

A woman trapped on the second floor escaped by jumping from a balcony.

The cause of the fire is under routine investigation by the Beaver Dam Police Department. The home was gutted by the fire and the contents are a total loss. It is expected that the structure of the house is repairable, according to a release from the fire department. The home is owned by Patrick Schultz of Beaver Dam.

Beaver Dam fire units remained on the scene more than two hours.

Firefighters were assisted on scene via mutual aid from Horicon and Juneau. Watertown EMS and Hustisford fire covered the city while all others were committed to the fire. Beaver Dam police assisted on the scene.
