For the first me ever, Colton’s Cure Foundation is partnering with the American Cancer Society to change the lives of families touched by cancer in Northeast Wisconsin.
The Wagon Warriors is an opportunity to relieve the cancer burden and let kids feel like kids during a journey no kid should ever have to endure and raise critical funds for groundbreaking cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
Associated Bank, Colton’s Cure and the American Cancer Society have set out to recruit 12 schools in Northeast Wisconsin to commit to decorating one wagon during the month of March. The wagons will then be donated to a local hospital pediatric unit in September. Once the school completes their decorating, they will submit a picture of their wagon with a story of their motivation.
The Wagon Warriors Campaign will take place from May 1 through May 31st. During this time the wagons and stories will be displayed on an American Cancer Society web site. Schools and community can rally their fundraising efforts and aim to raise critical funds for cancer research. In addition to the wagons, schools will be collecting items from a wish list created by Colton’s Cure so they can serve more Wisconsin families in 2017.
The wish list drop off locations will be hosted by a variety of Associated Bank branches within the wagon communities. Associated Bank is offering the top fundraising school a gift of $2,500. The presentation to the winning school and the wagon delivery to the local hospital systems will take place in September of 2017.
Colton’s Cure was created by a beautiful little boy named Colton. Colton was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma at the young age of two and half. Colton’s heart was big and he was always looking for ways to help others like himself. Although Colton’s me with us was short, he left behind a legacy through his foundation called Colton’s Cure. Colton’s Cure Foundation has a mission to help alleviate the cancer burden on families battling pediatric cancer. During Colton's courageous battle, he shared with his mom, Tara , that he knew he was sick when he was placed in a wheelchair during his hospital stays. A feeling felt by too many children. Because of this, Tara came up with an incredible idea to provide wagons instead of wheelchairs to hospitals so kids can feel like kids during treatment.
