Local Marines are coming together for the first ever Devil Dog Reunion. This is taking place on Tuesday, June 6 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at 1316 Shawano Ave. Green Bay at the Sgt. Benjamin Edinger Trail.

Organizers say there is a lot of history behind the event.

On June 6, 1918, during WWI at the Battle of Belleau Wood, France, the United States Marines were given the nickname, “Devil Dogs”. This nickname was given to them by the German Army for their activities during hand to hand combat. 1,087 Marines paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom that day.

Now, these local Marines want to continue showing the honor.

They want to walk along the Sgt. Benjamin Edinger Trail to remember each veteran who came home with memories of their war experiences.

A picnic will be provided by the Marine Corps League Detachment 1130.

Donations will be accepted for Guitars 4 Vets, the Sgt. Benjamin Edinger Trail, and Boy Scouts of America Troop #1113.
