Tracy and Peter Flucke, or WE BIKE, joined us to talk about biking to school safely.

This week marked National Bike to School Day. More than a dozen schools in the greater Green Bay area joined event sponsor Live54218, in the National Bike to School Day event.

Bike to School and the October Walk to School Days are a great way to show students and parents how fun and easy it is to bike and walk and encourage them to do it on a regular basis.

-Bike to Work Week - May 16 - 20 (Bike to Work Day May 20)

-Bicycle Bingo - May 16 - 20( Green Bay and De Pere participating)

Tips for Children riders:

-Child Bicyclist - important to remember children are not just small adults, still developing mentally and physically - can teach them but not until they are ready

-Children up to 3rd grade should have an adult ride with them

- Children 4th grade and up can bicycle alone if they have received some training and then can ride on quiet residential streets alone

Several schools in the area have added bicycle education and skill training as part of physical education. Through the League of American Bicyclists - a couple of instructors are available in the Green Bay area. You can also check out local Parks and Recreation Departments.
