The Department of Public Instruction released its annual report on statewide graduation rates Thursday. The average stands at 88.4 percent, with African American students coming in 29 percent lower than their Caucasian counterparts. Black students had only 64 percent of their students graduating within the four year window while White students were in the 93rd percentile. The Hispanic community had a 77.5 percent graduation rate with other races being broken down as follows:
Native Americans 78.1 percent
Asian Americans 90.7 percent
Pacific Islander 84.5 percent
Multi-Race 85.5 percent
Female students held larger lead over their male peers with 90.6 percent of females graduating in four years, while males had close to 4 percent less at 86.4 percent. Students with disabilities were further behind those without disabilities at 67.5 percent and 91.1 percent respectively. Other categories included the economically disadvantaged, and those proficient in English, and those for which English is their second language.
