The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office and City of Menasha Police Department rescued a snowmobiler from the open waters of Lake Winnebago last night around 10 PM.

Three snowmobilers were heading to the Waverly Beach area by way of Rainbow Beach Road in the Town of Menasha when they came upon open water.

The location of the open water is described as about 1/2 mile off shore south of Buoy 100.

The first snowmobiler who saw the water was able to avoid it, as was the second. However the third drove into the water.

The Neenah/Menasha Fire Department was able to rescue him by using an airboat. He is identified as a 26-year-old man from Neenah. He was taken to a local hospital as authorities say the man was in the cold waters of the lake for at least 30 minutes. No one else was injured.
