Drunk driver who killed friend appears in court

Savannah Dumas appeared in court Thursday, the room filled with friends and family members upset following the death of a woman who was one of the passengers a rollover. 

Dumas is currently being held on a $25,000 cash bond at Brown County Jail and is facing charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle if convicted. 

investigators say Dumas crashed her car on County Highway J, in Suamico, at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

A criminal complaint recently filed states that Dumas had an alcohol level of 0.123; the legal limit is under .08.

UPDATE: The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has identified the female victim involved in the deadly crash. Deputies say the victim is Megan L. Frehse, a 21-year-old Green Bay resident.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office says a 21-year-old woman died in a crash late Wednesday night in the Village of Suamico. 

Lt. Jason McAuly tells NBC26 that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. 

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on County Highway J/Lakeview Drive, south of Norfield Road. 

Deputies say the car was headed south on County Highway J, when it overturned after failing to negotiate a curve, hitting a ditch embankment. 

Three women, ages 20, 21 and 23, were inside the car. 

The 21-year-old woman was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Lt. McAuly says she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Her name is not being released until family is notified. 

Deputies say the 23-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The 20-year-old driver refused medical transport. 

The Brown County Sheriff's Department says that charges are pending.

The weather did hinder the investigation and that the crash is under investigation.
