Wisconsin State Troopers are reminding you to slow down on slippery roads.

They warn you to drive at a reduced speed through slushy conditions and to move over lanes if you will pass service vehicles on the highway.

For Jennifer Austin, a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper, safety starts by putting the phone down. She says, "Once you are on the roadway and you are traveling make sure you have your cell phone down, turn it off you need to so you can have your full attention on the roadway itself."

She says keeping distance between the vehicle in front of you can save lives, and to avoid slamming your brakes to keep from sliding through the slush.

Safety experts at Brown County Emergency Management recommend having a "winter kit" in your vehicle.

They say things like: warm clothing, jumper cables, a cell phone and charger, and an extra shovel can provide aid when you get stuck in winter weather.
