Partners in Education: Students learn business techniques through pizza

Fourth graders at Bay Harbor Elementary School are using their love of pizza to help re-vamp their school library space.

The students were split into 10 groups of 5 and asked create a new pizza flavor.  “What it means to do research and to applet it the real world, they are learning so much, not just the standard that we need to teach but so much more,” said  Teacher Amber Kalishek.

The top four pizza’s were: Spicy Nacho, Philly Cheese Steak, The Grand Slam, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. After a community tasting the winning pizza was Spicy Nacho which will go on sale June 1st at the Howard restaurant. Figaro’s will be donating a portion of the proceeds from sale of the pizza to the elementary school.

Kalishek says the money will be used create more space for project learning in their library.
