Fond du Lac police officers responded to a report of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter being held at knifepoint in their residence on Sibley Street by the woman’s estranged boyfriend at 11:44p.m. Wednesday.

Within 10 minutes, the woman was able to exit the residence with her child after the 49-year-old man had fallen asleep. Neither was injured and they were taken to safety by officers on-scene. Shortly thereafter, the man woke up and briefly stepped outside the house, but retreated back inside after receiving commands from officers outside.

This started a 4.5 hour standoff. A SWAT team took perimeter positions and deployed a robot into the residence to locate and initiate dialog with the man. The team later entered the residence and began negotiating with the man, keeping a K9 unit readily available within the residence. Eventually, the man complied with officer commands and was taken into custody without injury.

The man is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of domestic abuse related second degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, false imprisonment and intimidation of a victim.
