Neenah police have reached out to the public for help finding a person whom they say hit a crossing guard in Neenah.

According to police, a woman driving a black S.U.V hit a crossing guard near Wilson Elementary School as she was helping children around 3:30 Thursday afternoon.  Officers would like to speak with the woman.

They said the driver took off and the crossing guard suffered a knee injury.  No children were hurt.

Teresea Martin, a substitute crossing guard, worked the intersection of Lauden Blvd. and Commercial St., on Friday to make sure students had a safe walk to and from school.  She said she was not surprised by the hit and run.

"I almost got hit myself crossing someone," said Martin.  "A lady wasn’t paying attention.  She touched my leg with her car and she looked at me like it was my fault and I had the crosswalk. She just wasn't paying attention."

Neenah Officer Stuart Zuehls asks the public to put cell phones down,  stay off the radio, and keep their eyes on the road.

"Please be aware," Said Officer Zuehls. "Stop before the crosswalks, watch for students,  watch for kids crossing the road, people crossing the road as well in the crosswalks on bicycles."

Crossing guards work part-time for the Neenah police department.  Officers checked on the injured guard on Friday. They said her knee is sore, but she is okay.
