Smelly socks leads to bus passenger's arrest in India

A tourist in India has been arrested after fellow bus passengers reportedly couldn’t stand the putrid smell of his socks.

According to the Hindustan Times, in the early morning hours of Nov. 27, Prakash Kumar was traveling on a bus from Delhi to Dharamshala — about a 10 hour drive — when he took off his shoes and socks.

The musty smell of Kumar's socks quickly fulled the bus, and passengers pleaded with Kumar to either put his socks in his bag or throw them away. Kumar refused. The driver even reportedly stopped the bus two or three times to ask Kumar to deal with his pungent socks.

The smell got so bad, passengers forced the driver to stop at a police station about two hours into the journey to lodge a formal complaint. Police in Bharwain confirmed to the BBC that Kumar was arrested for “causing a public nuisance.”

Kumar has since been granted bail.
