GREEN BAY, WI---- As consumers hit both big and small box stores, millions of others are shopping online right now for great deals.

But with so many people buying on the internet there are more security risks.

Nearly eighty percent of Americans plan to shop online this Cyber Monday. Hackers, scammers, criminals are well aware of that.

“There will be a lot more opportunities for them," says IT-Expert Curt Esser.

So if you do plan on shopping online, Esser has some tips for you.

“People need to make sure that their computers are up to date. Need to make sure they're shopping securely. Look for the https, make sure of that as well as the padlock," says Esser.

He says consumers should try to use credit cards due to better recourse.

There are things you can do to protect your identity while shopping online.

1.      Use good passwords. Longer passwords are more secure and make sure to use a combination of            small letters numbers and characters.

2.      Beware of pop-up's and other digital ads that are not from the store's official social media page.

3.      Review your statements for small charges on your card. Hackers use them to test your account.
