The city of Menasha Police department has arrested three people who are suspected of dealing heroin out of their home. After serving two search warrants they not only found the deadly drug but also discovered weapons, crack cocaine and what they described as a large amount of cash. The arrests come after needles were repeatedly found by the public at nearby Jefferson Park.

The two month long investigation lead the Menasha Police to an apartment complex on the 900 block and 3rd Street. That location is just hundreds of feet away from Jefferson Park. It's the proximity of the park and the apartment that has investigators believing the needles in the park are likely tied to the accused drug dealers.

For over a month the Menasha Police have been warning the public about needles that kept on being found in Jefferson Park.

"I've seen pictures of it so I know it's happening," says Derek Goldben who grew up in Menasha and lives just across the street from Jefferson Park.

While Goldben hasn't seen the needles or heroin use, he’s well aware of the heroin problem in his community.

"It's something I heard about since middle school, people have been doing it. I didn't really think it was getting this serious that there was a three person drug bust in my apartment complex. That's crazy," adds Goldben who often frequents the park with his dog.

Police believe users would buy the narcotic and then walk then walk across the street to use it.

"It’s such a strong addiction that when they are able to get the heroin that they need... They often will shoot up very close to where they're actually making the transaction, where they are getting it," says Officer Aaron Zemlock of the city of Menasha Police department.

And with three people now behind bars for likely dealing the deadly drug, neighbors like Goldben is hoping that the needles stop showing up.

"I didn't think it really hit this close to home honestly," adds Goldben.

Police say they haven't released the names of the suspects at this point because they're still investigating whether there are other dealers with ties to them still present in the community. They plan on charging the three within the next month, likely for trafficking heroin and possibly additional charges as well.
