Monday Manitowoc police continued searching for a suspect in a shooting that left a man in critical condition last week.

Officers said the victim, a 44-year-old Manitowoc man was in an out of consciousness and they have not been able to interview him at this time.  Police were called to the 700 block of South 15th street around 10:45pm Friday night for a shooting.

Captain Larry Zimney with Manitowoc police said when officers arrived they found the man had been shot twice in the torso area.  He was treated at a local hospital and then air lifted to a trauma center outside Manitowoc, where he is undergoing medical procedures for life threatening injuries.

Zimney said they do not believe this shooting is random.

"It would appear at least that the person who was the shooter was familiar with his victim and had targeted him for some unknown reason," he said. "So whether the victim knew the shooter or not I can't say."

Neighbors said their street is a fairly quiet block.  There is one home which rents rooms and several other that rent apartments.

Police are still searching for the shooting suspect and describe him as a black male with dreadlocks wearing light colored clothing.
