Manitowc man arrested for OWI after hitting multiple light fixtures

MANITOWOC, WI -- A 26-year-old man is in jail tonight for alleged drunken driving, and multiple collisions.
 
The Manitowoc Police Department received a call from a citizen that witnessed a hit and run accident at N. Rapids Road and Broadway Street around 9:13 Thursday night.
 
Captain Jason Freiboth says the traffic light standard was struck by a black truck, and fell in the roadway blocking traffic. The complainant followed the suspect vehicle as it fled the area.
 
Officers eventually located the vehicle at S. 15th and Marshall Street.
 
The operator, a 26 year old Manitowoc resident, was taken into custody for OWI - first offense. Police say the operator was issued several other traffic citations.
 
Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle also struck and knocked down two other traffic light standards in the median on N. Rapids Road at Michigan Ave.
 
A Volkswagen emblem was located in the debris left behind.
