Police have arrested Marco A. Rodriguez after a pit bull was allegedly found chained to a pole and suffering from serious injuries outside a body shop.

They say the senior human officer was called to the business along Dousman Street on Friday afternoon because a caller asked for a welfare check on the dog.

According to the criminal complaint, the witness reported that the dog’s face appeared bloody and it seemed to be in pain. When humane officers arrived on scene, they said the dog had a severe type of skin mange and a noticeable injury to its right eye.

Officers say the dog was also left outside for an extended period, in about 90 degree heat with severe humidity.

Police say when animal control told Rodriguez to take the dog to a veterinarian right away, he told them he was not going to do that and said he was treating it himself. As officers attempted to seize the dog to get it the treatment it needed, Rodriguez became agitated and was not complying with officers.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and charged with animal mistreatment and disorderly conduct.
